We loved watching these performances and were impressed at how many dancers out of the 26 (!!) memorized their steps and yet there were so many strong improvised performances as well with flair, character and musicality
It was tough to get our lists in just the right order as there were so many spots that could have gone either way. Thank you once again to our guest judges @SmoothButters and our first Cyber Cypher winner (!) @ugogon for joining us in this difficult task!
Japan showed us much love for this event and we’re grateful for it. Thank you to @home_tan for joining our Discord and helping make sure all entries were counted w/ @ddr_yattemasu. It was a pleasure meeting you all remotely & seeing your different styles. We hope to meet someday!
Our top 3 will get the prizes mentioned here: https://bit.ly/37iuhlr … the bonus prize being any item from our newly-launched Freestyle Takeover Shop!
Thank you all for being a part of this and congrats to our winners! Let’s keep #DDRFreestyle alive & thriving!
Cyber Cypher 4 is all the way live! Submit a freestyle video using the hashtag #DDRFreestyle to enter. Entries will be accepted from now until November 8th!

As you may have heard on our podcast, our remote freestyle event Cyber Cypher is back by popular demand! We’ll be formally kicking off our 6-week window of entry this Friday (9/27), and to decide on our music selection this time around, we’re going to mix things up a bit…
…in the SQUARED CIRCLE~!
30 ALL-STAR COMPETITORS will square off in a WWE 2k19 Royal Rumble event streamed live on Twitch. The roster will include classic DDR characters, freestyle superstars, Konami composers and more – each competitor representing a song or pack of songs from DDR Ace!
Song selection for Cyber Cypher 4 will be determined via eliminations #5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 27, 28 and the winner of the Royal Rumble, giving you 8 options in total to freestyle to!
Additionally, we’ll be holding a women’s Texas Tornado match to determine the 9th and final song for CC4 – whoever gets the pinfall gets their song in. (unfortunately, the game doesn’t allow men and women to compete in a Rumble together, but we still have some 5 star talent lined up!)
RSVP for the remote event on Facebook, keep it locked on our Twitter page this week for roster updates and get ready to rumble this Friday night on Twitch.tv at 8/7c! Full rules on the tournament coming soon!
As you may have heard, our Cyber Cypher 3 results are in! DaKree got things soapy and we loved Melvin’s theme + technical ability but the fusion dance between Apples and Hideo Kojima was just TOO STRONG. This turned out to be a hugely entertaining remote event and we want to thank you guys for being a part of it and coming through with those themes!
It may be autumn but at Freestyle Takeover, we’re all about stepping up and never falling back. Cyber Cypher #3 is underway and this time you get to decide which song you’d like to perform to!
That’s right, every song on any official DDR Mix is fair game. So what’s the catch?
Since we’re coming up on Halloween, we want you to show us your spirit! By that, we mean dress up in your choice of costume whilst performing your routine. Whether you want to be spooky, sparkly, or savage, go big with it. There are no requirements or restrictions on your costume so long as it fits within guidelines of general decency. See the rules posted below for more details.
We, the Freestyle Takeover staff, will be your judges for this round. We’ll still grade your routine based on common factors such as creativity, musicality, showmanship, and charisma, but we’ll be giving more more emphasis on visual presentation, specifically your costume and its synergy with the routine.
Entries may be submitted between 10/8/2018 and 11/11/2018, 12:01am PDT. Full rules available under the jump.
